Gotham City is billionaire Bruce Wayne’s corrupted hometown that Ra’s al Ghul is bent on annihilating. The Gothic style of architecture is “characterized by pointed arches, rib vaulting, and a developing emphasis on verticality and the impression of height” which is an appropriate label for Gotham since the city lined with many dark and foreboding skyscrapers.
Gothic also implies that something is dark and gloomy, much like Gotham City. Some qualities of Gotham with higher crime rates and sheer building size are comparable with real life cities like New York City and Chicago.
