Albus Dumbledore

 Background
Albus Dumbledore is the old and wise headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He also fits the archetypal role of being a slightly eccentric, but wise and powerful wizard like Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars, or Merlin from Arthurian legends.

Albus is a Latin word meaning "white." White is a color associated with goodness, purity, and innocence. In a 2000 interview, J.K. Rowling explained that "Dumbledore is an old English word meaning bumblebee. Since Albus Dumbledore is very fond of music, I always imagined him sort of humming to himself a lot" (quick-quote-quill.org).
