King's Cross station
Background |
King's Cross station was designed by architect Lewis Cubitt and the main station, including platforms 1-8, opened in 1852. Platforms 9-11 were built in subsequent years as a result of traffic increases. The station is located in the London Burrow of Camden, in the heart of Greater London.
After publishing the book, author J.K. Rowling discovered that there is no barrier between platform 9 and platform 10, as the platforms face opposite of each other, and that she must have been thinking of another railway station. During filming platforms 4 and 5, which had a barrier between them, were renamed 9 and 10.
