Background |
|
Many of the blasters shown in the Star Wars films are machine guns or pistols that are modified to look more futuristic.
Similar concepts to blasters have long appeared in science fiction. One of the earliest appearances of a blaster-like item was in H.G. Wells' 1898 novel War of the Worlds. In the story the Martians use a weapon called a Heat-Ray, which, like a blaster, is a directed-energy weapon.
