Comic book artist John Byrne named Kitty Pryde after a classmate whom he met Alberta College of Art in Calgary in 1973. He told her at the time that he liked her name and would some day name a character after her. She accepted the comment, and didn’t think much of it until Byrne, who kept to his word, created the fictional X-Men character Kitty Pryde in the 1980s.
